集める
gather
（物・人を）一か所に寄せ集める。（最も一般的な語）
collect
通例、雑多なものの中から注意深く選んで整然と集める。
assemble
（特に人々を）特定の目的のために集める。
muster
（軍隊・船の乗組員を）検閲・点呼などのために招集する。
congregate
（人々を）特に集会に集める。
marshal
（人・事実などを）集めて整然と配置する。（格式ばった語）

gather

collect
1 to come or bring together in one place so as to form a group or mass; gather
Collect（up）the books and put them in a pile on my desk.
2 to gather（objects）over a long period of time, as a hobby, for study, etc.
John collects foreign coins.
3 to come to take away
He collected the children from school.
4 to ask for or obtain payment of（money, taxes, rent, etc.）
The government is trying to improve the way it collects taxes.
5 to get control of （oneself, one’s senses or feelings, etc.）

assemble
1 to gather or collect together into a group or into one place
At the beginning of the day, we all assemble in the main hall to be addressed by the head teacher.

gather、collect、assemble は、人や物を一か所に集める、または集まることです。
gather と collec tはよく似ていてどちらも使えるケースが多いですが、違いはあります。
gather は最も普遍的に使い、方々に散らばっているのをかき集める行為そのものに焦点があります。
対して collect は何かの目的をもって物を集める選択に焦点があります。
つまり gather は行為を意識し、collect は内容を意識しています。
Girls are gathering wild flowers.
（少女たちは野の花を摘んでいる）
He collects stamps.
（彼は切手を集めている）
gather と collect の違いは名詞にするとわかりやすくなります。
a gathering は集会のことで、対して a collection of people は単なる人の集まりではなく「十人十色」といったvarietyに重点があります。
You have quite a collection of people at your office.というと、「あなたの会社にはいろんな人がいますね」の意になります。
金銭の貸しや税の取り立て、月給などを受け取る時はgatherではなくcollectを使います。
I must collect my salary today.
（今日は月給を受け取る日です）
assembleは目的意識がcollectよりさらに強くなります。
「部品などを集めて機械を作ったり、集会を催す」際に使うのは assemble であり、gather、collect は使えません。

assemble lineは部品を組み立て、自動車を製造する「流れ作業」です。
