comparative、comparable のいずれも comparison を中心とした言葉ですが、意味は違いがあります。
 
comparative はある標準が頭の中にあり、それと比較することを意味します。
 
「どちらかというと」という感じで言葉を濁し、あからさまな比較を避ける意図があります。
 
In those days, we were living in comparative poverty.
（当時私たちはやや貧乏な暮らしをしていた）
 
上の例文の comparativeはrelative と交換可能です。極端な貧乏ではなく、大方の基準からすると貧乏、というわけです。

次のような用法もあります。
 
Comparatively speaking, women are better linguists than men.
（比較的女性は男性より語学に優れている）
 
comparableは類語を考えると、その性質がはっきりします。最も近いのはparallelとequivalentであり、つまり「匹敵するもの」のことです。
 
General office workers in America get paid for better than their comparable numbers in any other part of the world.
（アメリカの一般事務員は、世界のどの国の事務員よりも給料がよい）
 
このtheir comparable numbersは、彼らに相当する職業の人たち、つまりtheir counterpartsのことです。
