peak

英語類義語活用辞典の解説
peakとpinnacle、および summit、apexはいずれもtopおよびtopに到達したことを指しますが、意味は少し違いがあります。
peak は他に高い山が連峰のように存在する中での最高峰の意味です。
比喩的に使うと「従来のものと比較して最高」となります。
That event was the peak of his career.
（その出来事が彼のキャリアの頂点だった）
pinnacleは建築様式のひとつの小尖塔のことですが、比喩的にも使われます。
この場合、peakを修辞的に誇張した感じで、同じ”最高”でもpinnacleのほうは「いつ転落するかわからない」という心理的不安を含んでいます。
He was at the pinnacle of success.
（彼は成功の頂点にあった）
summit は単に頂上(topmost)という意味以外にはあまり使われず、比喩的な使い方もpeakよりは限られています。
He reached the summit of his ambition.
（彼は最大の野心を実現した）
apexは三角形の頂点のことで、組織などの頂点も意味しますが、特に賛辞は含まれていません。
These men are at the apex of the business structure.
（この人達はビジネス社会の頂点にいます）
