melt と thaw はいずれも個体が液体に変わっていくプロセスを言いますが、そのプロセスに違いがあり、比喩として違う場合も同じではありません。
 
melt は thaw より溶解度が高くかつ速やかで、「霧散する」という時にも使います。
 
溶かす対象も氷や凍ったものに限らないのが thaw と違う点です。
