性質
personality
ある人を人間として特徴づける精神的・感情的特質の総和。
character
他人との違いを生じさせる精神的・道徳的な性質。修飾語のないときは、正直で信頼される性格を表す。
temperament
思考や行動に影響を及ぼす人の総合的な性質。
disposition
性格・行動の特定の傾向。
temper
感情面から見た人の性質。
nature
人の生まれながらの性質や物の本質。

character
1 the combination of qualities which make a particular person, thing, place, etc. different from others; nature
The twins look alike but have very different characters.

英語類義語活用辞典の解説
personalityとcharacterはいずれも人の個性や性格を表し、ニュアンスには違いがあります。
personalityは「トータルな人柄で、知性・道徳・行為の全てを含む」とされがちですが、実際は人間の感情的なアピール、つまり「感じ」のほうに重点があります。
対してcharacterは知性や感情は考慮せず、その人の道徳的な強さを意味します。
He has character but no personality.
（彼はしっかりしているが、人好きのするタイプじゃない）
He has not character enough to reproach me.
（彼は私を叱るべきなのにその気概はない）
上の例のようにpersonalityと対照的にcharacterが使われる場合、「意気」や「気骨」の意味で、冠詞はつきません。
これは He has character. と He is a character. の違いで明らかになります。
前者は「彼は気概がある」ですが、後者は「彼は変人（an eccentric）」の意味であり、口語で He is a crank (もしくは a nut, an oddball, a weird). などというところを、character と体裁よく婉曲に表しているのです。
personalityは「感じが良い人」以外に「有名人」や「名士」の意味にも使います。
All local personalities were present at the opening ceremony.
（開会式には地元の名士が勢ぞろいした）
