strength

英語類義語活用辞典の解説
大きく分けると以下のようになります。
外部に現れた力がpower。
内なる力がstrength。
powerはstrengthよりも「権威」に近く、世間的な種類の力を指します。
I’ll do anything within my power to aid you.
（私の力が及ぶ限り援助します）
ここでの「力」には社会的地位からくる力も含まれており、このpowerをstrengthに替えることはできません。
powerは公的権力（official power）を暗示する語であり、He is a powered man.と言えば、政界などで強い権力を持った人を指します。
これが He is a strong man.というと、いくつかの訳が考えられます。
「なかなか弱らない男」
「歯に衣を着せぬ男」
「力の強い男」
など、文脈によって変わりますが、powerfulのように社会的な含みはありません。
先述のようにpowerは外部に向けた力ですが、自分自身をコントロールする力にも使います。
As a writer, I have a certain amount of power over myself.（物書きとして、多少の克己心は持ち合わせている）
上の例で strength over myself とは言いません。
選択する能力、物事を理解・推論する能力も指します。
Only man of all the animals has the power to reason.（あらゆる動物の中で人間だけが理性で考える能力を持っている）
肉体的な、暴力的な強さは brute power もしくは brute force と言いますが brute strength とは言いません。これはstrengthが内面的なエネルギーの強さを言うからです。
“power corrupts” つまり「権力は人間を腐敗させる」というこの警句のpowerもstrenghとは入れ替えられません。
