英語類義語活用辞典の解説
magazine は一般的な雑誌の総称で、主として月刊または週刊・隔週誌を指します。
journal は専門誌であり、Royal Geographical Society の機関誌は Geographical Journal で、地理学の専門家向けの雑誌です。
Geographical Magazine は一般向けの地理の雑誌です。
periodical は「定期刊行物」で、magazine と同じく一般向けの雑誌ですが、より改まった言い方になります。
個人が使うと気取った表現に聞こえます。
官庁や公立図書館の閲覧室には Periodicals のコーナーがあり、Magazines や Journals のコーナーとは言いません。
