英語類義語活用辞典の解説
magazineは一般的な雑誌の総称で、主として月刊または週刊・隔週誌を指します。
journalは専門誌であり、Royal Geographical Societyの機関誌はGeographical Journalで、地理学の専門家向けの雑誌です。
Geographical Magazineは一般向けの地理の雑誌です。
periodicalは「定期刊行物」で、magazineと同じく一般向けの雑誌ですが、より改まった言い方になります。
個人が使うと気取った表現に聞こえます。
官庁や公立図書館の閲覧室にはPeriodicalsのコーナーがあり、MagazinesやJournalsのコーナーとは言いません。
