embellish、adorn、decorateはいずれも「飾る」といった訳が当てられます。

embellish adorn decorateはいずれも装飾を施すことを意味しますが、その動作を行う心理面では違いがあります。
embellishは美しくするために何かを付け足すことです。
装飾した後の出来の良し悪しよりも、飾ろうとする意図と行動のほうに重点があります。
Her hat was embellished with a couple of flowers.
（彼女は帽子に二つ三つ花飾りをつけていた）
物理的な飾りだけでなく、言葉についての批評にも使われます。
Just tell me the truth, don’t embellish your story with some ideas of your own.
（君の考えを加えず、真実を話してほしい）
decorateは三つのうちで最も一般的な語で、場所や室内を装飾することに主として使います。
After the house is built, how much would it cost to decorate the house？
（家が完成した後、壁紙、ペンキその他の仕上げにどれだけかかるか？）
decorateもembellishも人間には使いません（勲章を授ける際のdecorateは例外）。人間を直接目的語にするのはadornです。
adornとdecorateは交換できる場合が多いですが、それはdecorateが人間を目的語としない場合に限ります。

decorateが人間を目的語にすると、本来美しくない外観を飾り立てて綺麗に見せようとする意味になります。これはadornとの大きな違いです。

adornは逆に、飾ろうとする対象がもとから相当な魅力を備えていることを暗示します。それに何らかの手を加えることで、その魅力を一層際立たせることをいいます。

結論としては、adornが最も良い意味の飾りで、この語にはembellishやdecorateにある皮肉な感覚はありません。
またadornには内面的な意味があり、対してdecorateやembellishは外部に付け足した装飾で、使いようによっては皮肉にも喜劇的にもなります。
